GENERAL PROJECT INFORMATION
Q: What is the purpose of this project?
A: This Project provides for the design and reconstruction of Kirkwood Roadway with curbs, sidewalks, driveways, street lighting, traffic control, and necessary underground utilities, along with in-line detention. This project includes two (2) sub-projects.
Q: What is going to be replaced/installed in this project?
A: Streets, curbs, sidewalks, driveways, street lighting, traffic control, and water and sewer underground utilities along with in-line detention.
Q How long is this project going to take to complete?
A (815 days) Work is scheduled to begin in the Spring of 2023 and is anticipated to be completed in the Summer of 2025. The project schedule will depend on weather conditions.
SIDEWALKS, TREES & LIGHTING
Q: Will there be Street Light Poles installed?
A: Yes.
Q: What are my options if I do not want to construct a sidewalk with my project?
A: If the sidewalks are designed and to be reconstructed and fall within the City of Houston right away, they will be reconstructed.
CONSTRUCTION
Q: At some point, will my utilities be affected?
A: Yes, at some point, utilities will be affected. However, you always have water and use of other utilities.
Q: Will this project cause traffic/mobility issues (lane closures, increase of trucks in the area, etc.)?
A: Yes, however, the traffic control plans will be readily available. There will always be an egress and regress. No Business driveways will be blocked.
Q: Are they going to dig up the front area or just the street?
A: Yes, street and front areas will be excavated.
Q: When will my services be transferred to the new line?
A: Once the new line is fully installed and pressured tested for leaks. Then the City of Houston will come and chlorinate and disinfect the water main lines for safe drinking water. Once that passes, the service line will be transferred to the new line.

Rounded corners so drivers don't have to slow down for right turns are TERRIBLE. First, encourages drivers to not come to a complete stop for a right turn on red. Second, terrible for ped/bike users. Drivers look left as they turn right * without completely stopping or yielding * for people crossing the street. This is not multimodal design. Please change this.
I am unable to find the details of the Waldemar intersection in the documents. The details of this intersection are important for bicycle transportation because Waldemar is a neighborhood shared street bike route. I would like to see the planned details for the intersection since the bike route will continue to cross Kirkwood, and the movements from/onto Waldemar on the west side are changing from existing. With the design I can go to the intersection and understand any possible sight line/traffic conflict issue. Thank you.
I appreciate that you're replacing the unsafe bike gutters with a protected shared-use path. I would like to see the travel lanes reduced to 10', instead of 11' as proposed. According to NACTO, "Lane widths of 10 feet are appropriate in urban areas and have a positive impact on a street’s safety without impacting traffic operations." The extra 4' of width could be used to replace the 6' sidewalk on the west side with a second 10' shared-use path, which would allow bicycles to use both sides of the street.
