Hi, Will you please have a median opening on Kirkwood at the intersection of Poplar Creek Drive? It would be a lot easier and safer for us who live on that street to come and go. Thanks, Jon

    Jo asked 29 days ago

    Ready...Set...ENGAGE!

The existing design does not incorporate a median opening at Poplar Creek. Instead, we are implementing a left turn lane at Waldemar. The taper for this lane begins directly at Poplar Creek. It's worth noting that during the design phase, extensive discussions were held regarding the inclusion of median openings to adhere to IDM spacing requirements and tree protection regulations. Revising the design to include an opening at Poplar Creek would necessitate a complete overhaul of the medians and a repetition of the entire approval process.

I would like to know if there will be some form of traffic control on the corner of Kirkwood and Southlake, both west and eastbound on Southalke. There have been several collisions, a death because people are trying to cross Kirkwood on Southlake and not keeping account with the traffic on Kirkwood. Thank you, Carla

    Ready..set...ENGAGE!

We appreciate your interest in our project. We would like to assure you that the contractor is closely following the Traffic Control Plan that is included in the construction drawings to ensure safety and efficiency during the construction process. Regarding any proposed signage or a traffic signal at Kirkwood and Southlake, we would like to inform you that the plans do not call for the installation of a traffic signal. However, we do have plans to install signage that will match the existing conditions in the field. We hope this information is helpful to you. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any further questions or concerns. We look forward to keeping you updated on our progress. Thank you for your continued interest and support!

Many in our neighborhood are not happy about the nature tree removal l. Is there anyway to preserve the mature trees and still conduct the project?

    Mlm asked 3 months ago

We at the City understand the value and beauty of our trees and is committed to make sure we evaluate and preserve all trees within the project area when possible. However, due to the drainage, safety, and mobility improvements planned for Kirkwood Paving and Drainage Subproject 2 project, some of the trees along Kirkwood Drive will be impacted and require removal.   The good news is that no trees along Briar Forest will be impacted by this project.

The City does have a tree ordinance that governs the removal, mitigation, and care of trees within the City’s right-of-way for construction projects. At the conclusion of this project, the Contractor will be installing new trees along the project alignment to mitigate for the removal of the existing trees per the Ordinance. To get more information about the tree protection plan for this project, please visit the project page at  engagehouston.org.

I've seen the orange/white barrels along the medians for a while now. When does the project actually start?

    jhakim1345 asked 4 months ago

    Howdy Neighbor!

The contractor has set up tree protection measures and has performed field reconnaissance prior to starting the main construction. The contractor is anticipating starting the utility installation in the coming weeks. Thank you for contacting Engage@houstontx.gov!

There is a lot of traffic at Kirkwood and Waldemar Dr.

Carmen asked over 2 years ago

Thank you for your question. New left-turn lanes are planned along Kirkwood at all median openings, including at the intersection of Waldemar. These lanes will remove turning vehicles from the general traffic along Kirkwood as they wait for a gap in oncoming traffic, thereby improving traffic flow and safety along Kirkwood. The City will continue to monitor this intersection to determine if future traffic operations or safety concerns require further improvements.
