DETAILS Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) manages the Texas Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) to comply with federal requirements. HSIP, directed by Texas’ Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP), works to achieve the main objective of significantly reducing traffic fatalities and serious injuries on all public roads by providing a standardized approach for identifying and reviewing specific traffic safety concerns throughout the state. This funding source aligns directly with the City of Houston’s Vision Zero goals.

The available funding changes annually, but since 2020 the City of Houston has been awarded over $31 million through this grant program.
