General Project Information
What is HSIP? The Texas Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) is a federally mandated program managed by TxDOT. HSIP, directed by Texas’ Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP), works to achieve the main objective of significantly reducing traffic fatalities and serious injuries on all public roads by providing a standardized approach for identifying and reviewing specific traffic safety concerns throughout the state. Texas’ SHSP identifies the emphasis areas and strategies that the HSIP will focus on to meet the state’s objectives of reducing fatal and serious injury crashes in Texas.
What is the purpose of this project? The purpose of this project is to improve road safety for all road users as well as improve traffic flow. By eliminating left turns from Maplecrest Dr to Beechnut St at this intersection, safety for pedestrians crossing the street, as well as people in vehicles traveling through this intersection, will be improved by removing conflicts. Travel flow will also be improved on both streets as more queuing areas is provided for turning vehicles on Beechnut St, and people driving vehicles on Maplecrest St will no longer be delayed waiting for a gap in two lanes of travel.
How long is this project going to take to complete? Work began in Fall 2023 and is anticipated to be completed in Spring 2024. The project schedule depends upon weather conditions. |
