We would like to provide you with a comprehensive update on the Park Ten project, outlining the recent developments and the anticipated timeline moving forward.

    • Original Timeline and Setback: The initial target completion timeline for the Park Ten project was set for Fall 2023. Unfortunately, in September 2023, the project encountered an unforeseen challenge as the contracted construction company declared bankruptcy. Consequently, construction activities were immediately halted.
    • City's Response and Contractor Replacement Process: In response to this setback, the City of Houston took decisive action by terminating the contract. Subsequently, the City of Houston engaged the Surety company to identify a suitable replacement contractor. We are pleased to inform you that the Surety company has diligently evaluated bids from potential contractors and is currently in the final stages of selecting the most qualified candidate. The commencement of work is anticipated within the next few months, contingent upon the execution of the new contract.
    • Construction Evaluation and Prioritization: Upon the appointment of the new contractor, there will be a thorough assessment of high traffic areas to strategically reduce the impact on the surrounding community before resuming construction. This meticulous evaluation aims to streamline the construction process and minimize disruptions to the area.
    • Revised Project Completion Timeline: As a result of these developments, we now project the completion of the Park Ten project to be in Spring 2025. We understand the significance of adhering to timelines and are committed to delivering a successful project while keeping the community's best interests in mind.
    • Temporary Measures for Public Safety: During this interim period, lane closures and traffic control measures will remain in place to mitigate potential risks to public safety associated with open shafts. We appreciate the community's cooperation and understanding as we prioritize safety throughout the project's duration.

We are dedicated to maintaining transparency and open communication throughout this process. Should you have any further inquiries or require additional information, please visit EngageHouston.org and register to the project page for updates and to voice your concerns.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding.

The original contractor for this project filed for bankruptcy in September 2023, and was subsequently unable to continue the contract work. Therefore, the City terminated their contract and requested to find a replacement contractor to finish the remaining work. We are currently in the process of finding a new contractor. Once selected, the new contractor will resume the work. In the interim, to maintain public safety at the site, the streets need to remain blocked due to testing and open shafts. We will provide an update on the timeline as information becomes available. Please subscribe to this project page to receive updates as they become available.

The streets that are currently restricted (traffic control in place) either have open tunnel shafts or other pending testing that needs to be completed before the traffic control can be removed from these areas. The traffic control on these streets needs to stay in place for public safety. Once the new contractor resumes work, they will prioritize these areas to open the partially blocked streets.
