Frequently Asked Questions
GENERAL PROJECT INFORMATION
Q What is the purpose of this project?
A The purpose of the project is to eliminate two transitions from 2-lanes to 4-lanes and complete the drive as planned to a 4-lane boulevard with divided median with mix of shared path and on-street bike path in the existing right-of-way. Traffic signal replacements are proposed. The project also improves street conveyance and sheet flow by providing in-line detention, as needed, for mitigation.
Q What is going to be replaced/installed in this project?
A The scope of this project is for construction of Westpark Drive Paving and Drainage Improvements from Wilcrest to Dairy Ashford and includes the installation of new storm sewer, storm sewer leads, storm manholes, junction boxes, inlets and related appurtenances within City right-of-way throughout the project limits as identified in the Contract Drawings. This project also includes replacing and constructing street pavement, driveways, curbs, sidewalks, shared use path, wheelchair ramps, permanent signs, pavement marking, streetlights, traffic signal, water lines and services, and related appurtenances throughout the project limits
Q How long is this project going to take to complete?
A 20 months (630 calendar days). Work is scheduled to begin in Fall 2022 and anticipated to be completed in Summer 2024. The project schedule will depend on weather conditions.
SIDEWALKS, TREES & LIGHTING
Q Will there be Street Light Poles installed?
A Yes.
Q What trees are being removed?
A The Tree Protection Plan identifies the trees to be removed, which includes the removal of diseased or dying trees. The City of Houston identifies trees that can be preserved on a case-by-case basis.
CONSTRUCTION
Q At some point, will my utilities be affected?
A Yes, you will lose water for a short period of time when the contractor is making waterline reconnections. Contractor will provide notice 72 hours in advance.
Q Will this project cause traffic/mobility issues (lane closures, increase of trucks in the area, etc.)?
A Yes, one lane closure and local access signs will be placed throughout the project site. Flaggers will be present to direct traffic during construction. Attached are the traffic control plans.
Q Are they going to dig up the front area or just the street?
A Both. The project will involve removing and replacing entire pavement and installing new sidewalks at certain locations all inside City of Houston Right of Way. No work is planned on individual (private) property.
