Why This Project Matters
The Neighborhood Wastewater Improvements – Package 6 Area 5 Project will upgrade essential wastewater infrastructure in the Larchmont neighborhood to improve service reliability, protect public health, and reduce long-term maintenance issues. Here's why it matters:
1. Connects the Neighborhood to the Wastewater System
Currently, wastewater lines in Larchmont are not connected to a proper downstream receiving system. This project solves that problem by installing a new 24-inch wastewater line along Beverly Hill, creating a much-needed connection that ensures wastewater is safely transported out of the area.
2. Replaces Outdated Backlot Lines
The project will relocate aging wastewater lines from backyards to the public right-of-way. This makes them easier to maintain and reduces the risk of overflows and service disruptions.
3. Minimizes Surface Disruption
To protect streets and reduce construction impact on residents, over 3,200 feet of new wastewater lines will be installed using trenchless construction. Eleven underground tunnel shafts—placed about 25 to 30 feet deep—will allow for installation with minimal damage to pavement and neighborhood surfaces.
4. Supports Long-Term Infrastructure Reliability
These improvements help modernize the area’s wastewater system, reducing the risk of leaks and costly repairs while ensuring it can meet the needs of the community for years to come.
