Beginning Monday, July 14, 2025, all traffic control devices will be removed, and both northbound and southbound lanes will fully reopen to traffic.
Please note that while this is a significant milestone, some restoration work and street light installation will continue along Kirkwood over the next 45 days. During this time, intermittent, single-lane closures may occur to safely complete remaining activities.
We appreciate your continued patience and support as we near the finish line on this important project.

Why This Project Matters
The Kirkwood Road – Subproject 2 project matters because it upgrades a key roadway that serves as a critical connector for neighborhoods, schools, and businesses in West Houston. Here's why this project is essential:
1. Improves Safety for All Road Users
Kirkwood Road experiences heavy traffic, including school buses, cyclists, and pedestrians. This project includes upgraded sidewalks, crosswalks, and traffic signals—making travel safer for everyone.
2. Reduces Traffic Congestion
By improving intersections and road surfaces, the project eases congestion and enhances the overall flow of traffic—reducing travel times for daily commuters and improving access for emergency services.
3. Upgrades Stormwater and Utility Infrastructure
This area is prone to flooding and infrastructure wear. Replacing aging stormwater systems and underground utilities helps prevent water backups and protects roadways and properties from future damage.
4. Supports Community Livability and Access
Better street lighting, sidewalks, and landscaping make the corridor more walkable and inviting—benefiting nearby schools, parks, and residential communities.
5. Strengthens Local and Regional Connectivity
As a connector between major thoroughfares and residential areas, improving Kirkwood supports more efficient travel across the West Houston region, linking people to jobs, schools, and services.
