Why This Project Matters
Rebuilds a worn-out major corridor
This project completely reconstructs and widens Greens Road from JFK Boulevard to US 59 into a four-lane, divided concrete roadway brought up to Major Thoroughfare and Freeway Plan standards. It replaces pavement that’s deteriorated beyond normal repair, giving drivers a safer, smoother, more reliable route.Improves drainage and reduces street flooding
New storm sewers, curbs, and underground utilities are designed to move water off the roadway faster, cutting down on ponding that can stall traffic and damage vehicles during heavy rain.Makes it safer to walk, ride, and wait for the bus
Added sidewalks, driveways, and upgraded street lighting make the corridor safer and more comfortable for people walking to work, school, churches, transit stops, and local businesses along Greens.Keeps a key airport route open during storms
Greens Road is one of the east–west lifelines serving the IAH area. Regionally, this project is flagged as a flood-mitigation corridor to help keep access to the airport and nearby industry open during major rain events.
