Thank you for your interest in Cottage Grove East Subproject 2. Please see the responses to your questions below. Thank you for your time and patience.
Question 1: Will there be an effort to bury the overhead utilities/electricity lines while the roads are under construction?
Response 1: The overhead electrical will remain on the power pole during construction; the relocated power poles will include moving the overhead electrical lines to the relocated pole, leaving the communication lines on the Stub pole.
Question 2: Can we expect the crews to utilize existing walk-ways (often mismatched and unlevel) or demolish existing and create new ones?
Response 2: There are six construction phases to the project. Half of the street will be closed to perform demolition, then construct proposed utilities and paving on the same side, then the other half will be closed to perform demolition, then construct proposed utilities and paving, this is the pattern for the whole project, consisting of six construction phases.
Question 3: Can you share an overview of the current collaboration with utility/telecom providers?
Response 3: Currently coordinating with CenterPoint Electrical, Gas, Street Lighting and Major Under Ground (MUG) Conduits, AT&T all aerial, Verizon Network cable along Oakley and Kyle and along Stanford, Verizon Wireless, Phonoscope, PS Lightwave, Zayo along Montrose and Oakley
Question 4: Are teams working in unison to coordinate schedules and avoid future micro-trenching etc?
Response 4: The plan is to have private utilities relocated prior to start of public utility and paving construction.

Share Any new news? Please tell us this is actually going to happen this year. I’ve been living here 9 years, and every year it’s “going to happen,” and then doesn’t. It feels more promising this year, but updates would help me feel more secure. :) on Facebook Share Any new news? Please tell us this is actually going to happen this year. Share Please please please hurry on Cottage Grove East, subphase 2. But question on subphase 1, are there any plans to fix the situation of residents on Cornish St. trying to cross over Durham towards Shepherd? Vehicles are going super fast down Durham and then don’t leave space for vehicles to cross over when there is a red light. It’s like playing a very scary game of frogger but with cars. Maybe another stop light doesn’t make sense there but perhaps some road paint to indicate not to stop there, blocking traffic, when light is red? Also maybe some paint warning to slow for cross vehicle traffic? on Facebook Share Please please please hurry on Cottage Grove East, subphase 2. KFred asked about 3 years agoThank you for your question. Speeding is a tremendous concern along all of Shepherd and Durham. The new proposed lane widths should help slowdown the traffic speed, as Shepherd- Durham Phase-2 project being proposing 4 lanes to 3 lanes. The intersection at Cornish is too close to the light at the frontage road to install a new signal. DO NOT BLOCK INTERSECTION signage would help at the intersection. With the Shepherd Durham Phase 2 project, we are planning to propose the DO NOT BLOCK INTERSECTION signage and look into some additional striping to help drivers know where to stop to allow cross traffic to move.

Why This Project Matters
The Cottage Grove East – Subproject 2 focuses on critical drainage and street improvements to support safety, mobility, and long-term infrastructure needs. Here’s why it’s important:
1. Reduces Flooding Risk
Storm drainage improvements will help manage rainwater more effectively, reducing the chance of street and home flooding in this low-lying area.
2. Improves Streets and Sidewalks
New concrete paving, curbs, and sidewalks will improve the condition of neighborhood roads, making them safer and easier to navigate for drivers and pedestrians.
3. Enhances Accessibility
Driveway upgrades and new sidewalks create a more walkable environment and improve access for all residents, including those with mobility challenges.
4. Modernizes Utilities
Upgrades to underground utilities strengthen essential services like water and sewer systems, helping prevent disruptions and ensuring long-term reliability.
5. Builds a Stronger Neighborhood
These combined improvements make the community safer, more connected, and more resilient against weather impacts and everyday wear.
