    Dear Resident,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and observations regarding the reconstruction of Antoine Dr. from US 290 to W. Mt. Houston. Please note that the proposed 6 lane section you reference was one of the proposed typical sections of the 2011/2016 Antoine Drive traffic studies: from US 290 to Tidwell the roadway would be expanded from 4 lanes to 6 lanes, and from Tidwell to W. Gulf Bank the roadway would remain a 4 lane section. Earlier this year, a new traffic study was conducted which concluded that with proposed multimodal design changes and intersection signal improvements, a 4 lane typical section would be adequate for the entire corridor from US 290 to W. Mt Houston.

The project’s federal funding is currently contingent on expanding Antoine to a 6-lane section between US-290 and W Tidwell and keeping a 4-lane section between W Tidwell and W Mt Houston. Any change to that scope needs to be approved by Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) prior to the City moving forward with full designs and follow-on construction. The City will seek approval of any proposed scope changes with H-GAC prior to the final design.

  • Share I live off of Antoine between 290 and W. 43rd Street and have done so for more than 20 years. I strongly oppose expanding the street to six lanes. I drive on Antoine nearly everyday of the week and with just two lanes of traffic in each direction, there's PLENTY of excessive speeding and running of red lights for pedestrians and bicyclists. Expanding this street to three lanes in each direction will only increase the speeding and running of red lights. In a city with as much talent and brain power, I'd think someone or some group of people can come up with a far better plan to address population growth than with pouring more concrete for streets. Increasing the number of lanes for Antoine will definitely increase the level of noise, traffic and pollution. The Super Neighborhood 12 opposed this project several years ago and I believe it's still opposed to it. Around the same, a city department (I don't remember which one) conducted a study on various Houston Public Works projects, which the Antoine project was included, and the result was that increasing the lane count for Antoine was unnecessary. Why is the Houston Public Works Department determined to undertake a project that's not necessary. Yes, repave Antoine, improve the infrastructure under the roadbed, but DO NOT increase the number of lanes. This project needs to be re-evaluated on multiple levels because HPW is not thinking of the residents who actually live along this street. on Facebook Share I live off of Antoine between 290 and W. 43rd Street and have done so for more than 20 years.
