LOCATION Bingle Road from Long Point Drive to Winningham Lane

COUNCIL DISTRICT A

TYPE Street

START Fall 2022

COMPLETION Winter 2023

DETAILS After evaluating traffic data, this section of Bingle Road will be converted from four lanes (two in each direction) to three lanes (one lane in each direction with a center turn lane). Bingle Road will not be reconstructed but will be restriped to the new configuration. Of note, a portion of this project is in Spring Valley Village jurisdiction (south of the Spring Branch creek to Winningham Lane). This is a joint effort between the City of Houston and Spring Valley Village.

General Project Information

What is the purpose of this project?
The lane reconfiguration is intended to improve safety and traffic operations on Bingle Road. The existing four-lane, undivided configuration creates dangerous conditions for people traveling along the corridor. Three lanes with a center turn lane will allow turning vehicles to pull into a designated turn lane so that traffic can flow. This configuration also makes it easier for pedestrians to cross the street, because there are fewer lanes to navigate.

How long is this project going to take to complete?
The project is estimated to take approximately one month once construction starts.

    Howdy Neighbor!

This project has been designed to improve safety on Bingle Road for residents as well as those that travel through the corridor. 4-lane, undivided roadways present many safety hazards and, according to the Federal Highway Administration, converting 4-lane roadways to three lanes can reduce crashes by up to 47%. Benefits of a 4-lane to 3-lane conversion include Reduction of rear-end and left-turn crashes due to the dedicated left-turn lane; Reduced right-angle crashes as side street motorists cross three versus four travel lanes; Fewer lanes for pedestrians to cross; Traffic calming and more consistent speeds. Thank you for your interest in this safety project, and please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Howdy Neighbor! There are two parts to the Bingle project: one in the City of Houston and one in the adjacent City of Spring Valley. Both parts will be implemented by the same pavement marking contractor simultaneously. The contractor is ready to proceed in the Houston section; however, they are waiting for Spring Valley's contract approval. They are hopeful that Spring Valley City Council will approve their contract this month, and in the best-case scenario, they could begin and finish all related work in November 2023.

Howdy Neighbor! Construction is scheduled to start in late Fall 2022 and be complete by early Winter 2023. Please understand that these dates are subject to change.

  • Share This is a bad ides. Bingle is already congested with 4 lanes. Making it 2 through lanes will make it more congested which will move more traffic to Wirt and Campbell which are already congested too. New patio homes in the area have increased density and traffic, and more continue to be built. There are already lights and pedestrian crosswalks for the very few pedestrians to use. on Facebook Share This is a bad ides. Bingle is already congested with 4 lanes. Thank you for your feedback. This project is informed by traffic volume data, safety data, such as crashes, and community input. Converting from four undivided lanes to three lanes with a center turn lane provides capacity for current and future vehicle traffic, is a proven safety countermeasure and helps the City of Houston and its partner, Spring Valley Village, achieve safer streets for all road users.
