DETAILS The work includes new concrete and asphalt pavement, curbs, wheelchair ramps, sidewalks, streetlights, and reconstruction of median openings. The existing drainage system will be upgraded with the installation of new stormwater, inlets, manholes, and inline detention. The existing water main will be replaced to include new fire hydrants and valves.

    We’re pleased to share the latest developments:


    Current Progress:

    • The storm system is now complete on the east side of Kirkwood, from Briar Forest to Overbrook.
    • Water and wastewater infrastructure installations are fully completed.
    • Paving on the east side of Kirkwood from Briar Forest to Overbrook is finished.

    Next Steps:

    • Storm system installation on the west side of Kirkwood is underway.
    • Pavement removal has started on the southbound lanes, with traffic now open on the newly completed pavement north of Waldemar.

    Traffic Lane Changes from Briar Forest to Waldemar and from Waldemar to Westheimer.

    WHEN

    WHY

    Stormwater System Installation and Paving

    UPDATE There will be a shift in construction to the Southbound side of Kirkwood starting next week. Residents will now be driving on the new pavement (North Bound lanes) from Briar Forest to Waldemar then would shift back to the Southside from Waldemar to Westheimer. Stormwater on the Northbound side continues and is complete up to Southlake. With the closure of a portion of the Southbound side stormwater installation will be occurring simultaneously on both sides. Pavement on the Northbound side is also complete up to Poplar Creek and the contractor works continues.

    We want to provide an update on the progress of the Kirkwood Road - Subproject 2. As of Summer 2024, here is a summary of our progress:


    Progress Update:

    • Waterlines and wastewater lines: work expected to be complete by Summer 2024.
    • Stormwater System: Installation is finished from Briar Forest to Southlake on the Northbound side of Kirkwood.
    • Paving and Shared-Use Path: Paving is complete from Briar Forest to Waldemar, and portions of the 10-foot shared-use path is complete on the Northbound side of Kirkwood.

    Next Steps:

    • The contractor will continue with stormwater installation and paving on the Northbound side before starting on the Southbound side. Look for the traffic control changes once the Southbound Consruction starts.

    All businesses and homeowners who are projected to be out of water was notified by the Contractor on June 24th.

    An emergency repair is planned for this evening along Kirkwood between Overbrook and Southlake. It will likely shut off water in the area between these streets for at least 6-8 hours.

  • Traffic Update

    We are performing construction near Waldemar and Kirkwood crossing, our contractor has ensured that during peak hours, morning and afternoon, flaggers will be available to help get pedestrian traffic safely across. The flaggers will again be implemented by the contractor during the paving operations at this intersection. In addition, contractors will have additional barrels and traffic control devices in place during this construction.
