Tree Protection
Share Tree Protection on Facebook Share Tree Protection on Twitter Share Tree Protection on Linkedin Email Tree Protection linkWe understand how important the trees are along the corridors, and while some will need to be removed for the work that will help reduce flooding and improve long-term neighborhood resilience, we’re committed to preserving and replacing as many as possible. The good news is that when construction wraps up, we’ll be planting over 500 new trees throughout the project area. These new plantings will bring fresh shade, improved air quality, and beautiful landscaping that will grow with the community for generations. Together, we’re building safer streets and a greener future.

Why This Project Matters
The Shepherd Durham Improvements project focuses on the design and reconstruction of this one-way pair corridor, adding modern infrastructure and safety features. Here’s why it matters:
1. Improves Transportation Flow
Reconstructing Shepherd and Durham supports better traffic control, helping reduce congestion and improving the efficiency of travel along this busy corridor.
2. Enhances Safety
Upgraded traffic control measures, along with new pedestrian and bicycle facilities, make the corridor safer and more accessible for everyone, whether they walk, bike, or drive.
3. Expands Mobility Options
By incorporating dedicated pedestrian and bicycle facilities, the project encourages alternative modes of transportation and supports a more connected community.
4. Strengthens Infrastructure
Reconstruction includes necessary underground utility upgrades, ensuring the corridor can handle current and future demands while reducing the risk of system failures.
5. Supports Quality of Life
The project transforms the corridor into a more efficient, safe, and accessible route, benefiting residents, businesses, and visitors while improving the overall character of the area.
